Red Velvet Milkshakes

Red Velvet Milkshakes

Good grief. You are either going to love me or hate me for this recipe. Maybe a little of both. Our Valentine baby turned eleven this year. Which is obviously a reason to celebrate. To help us with some Valentine's Day Birthday party inspiration, we turned to Bethany Mota.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnDp151B4yo   Unless you have one or more tween girls living under your roof, chances are you've never heard of ...

How to make almond milk

How to make almond milk

Homemade almond milk is so easy to make I swear I'm going to do it more often.  The hardest part about this recipe is remembering to soak the almonds overnight. Because who has soaked almonds lying around?  SOAK ALMONDS — now there's an iPhone reminder you never thought you'd set. Soaking the almonds softens the nuts, releases their flavors, and makes for a more creamy milk. Once you've made your own almond milk, you'll wonder, like ...

Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix For a Crowd

The season of gifts & guests is upon us! This super chocolate-y hot chocolate will bring good cheer to anyone who drops by for a visit. The creamy blend of cocoa and white chocolate says l.o.v.e. in a mug. All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt. ~ Charles Schulz Keep this dry mix on your counter in a festive container. When friends arrive you'll be ready to serve a special treat for the visit. ...

Avocado Coconut Cream Smoothie

Avocado Coconut Cream Smoothie

I love instagram. It makes me all kinds of happy to see and post fun pictures. Snapshots tell mini stories that would otherwise go unnoticed. Or forgotten. Posting on instagram is much easier than blogging. For example, I wanted to share my favorite new smoothie recipe with you. So I took a photo of my avocado coconut cream smoothie this morning. The photo is awful. It was still dark outside, the automatic flash went off, it's out of ...

Healthy Green Smoothie Recipes

Healthy Green Smoothie Recipes

Husband bought a juicer. He's like a kid in the candy store, except in this particular store the candy is of the kale, cucumber, beets, and parsley variety. Every morning I watch him carefully concoct a rich blend of color and nutrients into a tall glass of juicy perfection. I haven't tackled the juicer yet, but so far Husband has shared his morning creations and I can tell you I'm hooked. My favorite juice so far is a dark green blend ...

Top 3 Favorite Smoothies

Top 3 Favorite Smoothies

I'm pretty sure the world does not need another smoothie recipe. But, I'm in a smoothie-state-of-mind and thought I would share the love. I'm just back from a brutal stint at the gym where my trainer and I discussed smoothies in between breaths - mine, naturally, not hers. I offered numerous times to actually stop what we were doing (lunges and such) so I could make her a fabulously healthy smoothie. I can be quite generous like that. ...

Tuaca – An Italian New Year’s Eve Drink

by Kristin 2 Comments

Now here's something you won't catch me saying very often. "GET THEE TO A LIQUOR STORE!" Probably should explain myself, huh? For fourteen December-thirty-firsts, Husband and I have celebrated the gift of marriage. New Year's Eve is a spectacular evening on which to be married. Unless you are the wedding planner and Mia who had to work doubly hard to find venues, bands, caterers, etc. to joyfully provide their services on ...

What’s in the smoothie?

What’s in the smoothie?

I make smoothie's all the time for a quick breakfast for the Littles. Today I was very, very sneaky... Can you guess what's in the smoothie? A full serving of broccoli. Yep, blended unnoticed right into a healthy glass of deliciousness. I passed off smaller cups to the unsuspecting troops, and savored this tall glass of goodness all for myself. No doubt you have your own favorite smoothie concoctions. Next time you blend up ...

Lemons

Lemons

Sometimes life gives you lemons. And sometimes a surprise comes with your lemons. A month or so ago I picked up a bag of lemons, probably at Costco or HEB. Tucked in the Sunkist sack was a robinet pour citron. Fancy, huh? This tiny yellow faucet easily twists into the stem end of a lemon and with a squeeze you have fresh juice. Can you stand the excitement? Here's the twist. I like to drink hot lemon water. Quirky, I know, but ...

Basil Lemonade

by Kristin 2 Comments

Yesterday Littlest and I made Basil Lemon Simple Syrup. As soon as her feet hit the ground this morning she was begging for Basil Lemonade. What could I say? After all, she deserved to taste the fruit of her labor. We squeezed (and squeezed) lemons, added our delicious syrup, and in no time at all we were savoring fresh lemonade. Littlest loves it!  I must admit, it's crazy good lemonade and Addie's revelation to add balsamic vinegar ...
