The Blind Side

by Kristin 1 Comment

Has everyone seen The Blind Side but me? Husband and I don't get out much to see movies, so we were thrilled when the film came out this week on appleTV. The Blind Side is not what you would expect from Hollywood. It's not high drama, action packed, or even a thriller movie.  Rather I felt like I was curled up on the couch with the characters as they shared their testimony. Tim McGraw is charming, Quinton Aaron inspiring, and Sandra ...

Resurrection Eggs

by Kristin Leave a Comment

The Littles arrived home a few days ago to find Easter decorations scattered across the kitchen table.  Of all the eggs, bunnies, baskets, and pastel what-nots, each of them went straight to our collection of Resurrection Eggs. Since the Littles were very young we've used this craft to help tell the Easter story.  We have a store bought and home-made versions in our collection. If you'd like to make one at home with your Little(s), ...

Tomato Basil Salad

Tomato Basil Salad

What's your favorite lunch?  My favorite spring and summer lunch is hands down tomatoes tossed with basil, olive oil, and a splash of balsamic vinegar. Husband's garden is beginning to show glimpses of the seeds he's planted.  It won't be long until our backyard bears the fruit of his labor and our CSA begins delivering bushels of freshly, hand picked produce.  My taste buds can hardly wait!  Just this past week, really yummy ...

My cup runneth over…

by Kristin 5 Comments

Here's a glimpse of our spring break at the lake in the Hill Country.  I am grateful for the abundance of sunshine, the quiet and refreshing waters, and the restoration of our souls that came from a week of rest.  Mostly I am in awe of and thanksgiving for The Good Shepherd who has given me so much.  My cup truly does runneth over. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my ...

Hipstamatic app for iphone

by Kristin 4 Comments

One of the things I would love to accomplish is learning to take better photographs.  I oooh and ahhh at fabulous photographs on various blogs and always think to myself -- next week. Next week I'll learn all about aperture, shutter speed, ISO and meters.  Well, four years of next weeks have come and gone and while I've definitely learned a thing or two, I still do not have the thriving, healthy relationship I crave with my Nikon. I ...

Strawberry Smoothie

by Kristin 5 Comments

Strawberry Smoothie

We are big fans of smoothies at The Schell Cafe.  Smoothies are a quick and tasty way to get a good dose of fruit, protein, and vitamins into the Littles' diet.  Going gluten and dairy free doesn't mean we have to sacrifice our smoothies! Here's a remake of our favorite standby.  Guess what?!?!  It scored a unanimous four thumbs up! I don't really use a recipe for smoothies, so I guesstimated on amounts.  This yields enough for all ...

Gluten & Dairy No More? Oh my!

by Kristin 3 Comments

What is the first thing I fed the Littles for breakfast the morning after confirming two of the four have intolerances to gluten and dairy? Yogurt. And, the best granola in the world. Yes, I understand what intolerance to gluten and dairy means.  But, before you go alerting the authorities that I jacked the Littles up on the newly verboten, allow me to set the stage. I am grateful.  So very grateful that these aversions to gluten ...

Scouting the Divine

by Kristin 2 Comments

SPRING BREAK! Can I get an Amen?!?! I don't know about you, but it's hard for me to read for pleasure during the school year.  Trust me, I have no problem catching the zzz's once my head hits the pillow at night.  So, I save up all my favorite reads for summer, and maybe one or two for spring break. Our spring break begins today.  And since I just kissed the Littles' out the door for school, mine has officially begun! I can't wait to ...

Journey of Faith

by Kristin 3 Comments

I love this piece of artwork that hangs in the hallway between the Littles' bedrooms.  It was a gift from a dear friend to us during a difficult time.  Someday, I'll share our adoption story with you. Every time I walk by this precious painting I smile.  It was painted by a woman named Mary Proctor.  After losing her family in a devastating fire, the Lord appeared to Mary and told her to paint.  She's been painting and creating ever ...

Happy Birthday

by Kristin 4 Comments

Our baby boy turns ten today. I'm alternately weepy, shocked, and overjoyed by this milestone. As his mother, I wonder have I done enough?  The fact that he's more than half-way through the years in which Husband and I are legally responsible for him fills me with a sense of urgency. Oh don't get me wrong.  He's well provided for.  He gets nourishing home-cooked meals, has several sports jerseys to wear, and a comfortable bed to toss ...
