Star of the Week

by Kristin Leave a Comment

Our 1st grader is Star of the Week at school.  She started the week by sharing favorite photographs of herself and the rest of the family with her classmates.  When she was choosing from the photos I had pulled for her, she skipped right over this one.  Of course, it's my favorite.  It was taken this summer in southern California.  She doesn't like it because 'you can't see me'.  I love it for how much of her I can see. Keeping with ...

The body of Christ

by Kristin Leave a Comment

Do you remember these? It was 41 degrees in Dallas this morning when we woke up.  Husband lit the gas wall heater for us, and truly a shower never felt so warm. I love these heaters.  I remember them vividly from childhood bath times, especially at my grandparents' homes. Spending the last few days with Husband's mother, who is still in ICU, has obviously been an emotional ride. If you've ever sat long enough by someone's bedside you ...

Remember When

by Kristin 5 Comments

There's a song by Alan Jackson that should be banned from my playlist. Only I love it so much I would never push delete.  I've never, ever, never listened to Remember When without crying.  I'm so sure of its tear inducing powers when it queues up in my song rotation, I automatically hit skip. Almost always.  Every once in awhile, if I'm feeling extra cheery I'll test my theory and listen to the damn song just to see if I've outgrown the ...

Steak with Mixed Peppercorns & Pomegranate Glaze

by Kristin 2 Comments

The November 2009 issue of Bon Appetit presents Steak with Mixed Peppercorns & Pomegranate Glaze (on page 56 if you want to follow along) as Fast, Easy & Fresh.  As a side bar the magazine hints that it's a quick dinner party dish too.  I can tell you it's true.  Delish. And deceptively easy. I don't usually gravitate to steak recipes.  I mean, how hard can fixin' steak be, right? And when you have the world's best Cowboy Steak ...

There’s an app for that…

by Kristin Leave a Comment

It's no secret.  I heart my iphone.  I'm still not sure if this mobile wonder makes me more effective or if it's just a time suck. I'm guessing a little of both. And the apps! Oh the apps.  Who would ever have imagined such a concept? If you have a need want, there is an app.  I won't tell you how many pages of apps I have... It will save you from judging me. I keep my page(s) of apps organized by category.  On one page I have apps ...

Texas/OU Weekend

by Kristin 4 Comments

It's the greatest rivalry in college football. Over 100 years of tradition formed by deep seated alliances separated by the raging Red River. A river whose strength pales in comparison to it's fierce competitors to the north and south. Since 1900 the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners have faced off in the legendary Red River Rivalry. Most folks make the annual pilgrimage to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for the promise of passionate ...

Do Not Try This (Candy Corn & Peanuts!)

by Kristin 3 Comments

I really hate to share this Halloween concoction with you.  Go ahead, try it if you dare... A dear friend updated her Facebook status last week extolling the virtues of candy corn mixed with peanuts.  Ha! I'll escape that one. I don't even like candy corn! Unless they are mixed with peanuts apparently. I'm sorry. ...

Cheese Straws

by Kristin 3 Comments

One of the most shocking entries on my calendar occurred on August 8th.  The entry at the top of the day read: make cheese straws/freeze for Christmas. I'm not sure what moonshine I was sippin' when I added this event to my calendar, but rest assured August 8th came and went sans cheese straws. In my defense, I actually remember adding this task to my calendar last year. I was in the throws of the holidays and wished I had planned ...

Chobani Cheers!

by Kristin 2 Comments

Sometimes lunch requires a recipe.  And sometimes, like today, lunch just makes itself. Sorry friends, no recipe today.  But, I am sharing one of my fav O rite treats.  You've probably eaten Chobani for years, secretly keeping it from me just for fun, right? First, I must offer some kind of a disclaimer.  There has been much ado throughout the blogosphere and social networking land about blogging and disclaimers. The FTC is enacting ...
